Summary: | [...]there has been insufficient research into their effects on PVI. [...]the aim of this study was to determine and compare PVI variation induced by PLR and TP maneuvers, which cause endogenous fluid challenges in spontaneously breathing, healthy participants.2 Materials and methods This study was carried out with the approval of the local ethics committee. [...]assuming a 2-sided α = 0.05, we anticipated a sample size of 51 patients for each group to achieve 80% power. According to those calculations the decision was made to include 110 participants (55 in 2 groups) in the study.2.4 Statistical analysis The statistical analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 22.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). When the direction of PVI change was analyzed, however, it was observed that there was no change in ΔPVI values in more than half of the participants of both groups. [...]despite the statistically significant change in ΔPVI values, when considering the inconsistent direction of change in PVI and the variable results of previous studies, we believe that PVI is an inconsistent predictor of change in volume status, which was stimulated by PLR or TP in spontaneously breathing, healthy patients. |
