description Covering up since the late eighties, the last 25 years have known the development of a new historiography of Spanish cinema developed from more rigorous methodologies that include textual analysis as sharp scalpel, capable of accessing the formal entrails of films. This new historiography is able to banish topics converted over time into irrefutable "truths" (the total break between the republican cinema and that of the forties, read exclusively as a mechanical manifestation of the Franco regime; the "Regenerationist" cinema of the fifties erroneously linked to Italian neorealism) and to set up a new memory of Spanish cinema that inevitably brings with it a new canon capable of placing first and last names and titles barely (re) known. For instance, a Spanish cinema whose roots remain in expressions of popular culture, which continues a certain post-war cinema, and which transforms in the fifties from after the evolution of the forms of the filmic sainete.
