Description
Summary:Computational study of flow and heat transfer characteristics from a rotating circular cylinder kept in cross-flow is performed. The interaction between inertial and thermal forces strongly affects the wake of the circular cylinder. To study this interaction, the cylinder is kept in a cross flow corresponding to Reynolds number in the range of 50 to 200, and is heated so that the Richardson number is 1. The rotation rate is varied between 0 to 2, and its effect on wake was studied. It was found that with increase in rotation rate the variation of average Nusselt along the cylinder surface becomes more uniform. This uniformity is achieved on behest of reduction in heat transfer which can be attributed to the negative vorticity generation due to rotation of the cylinder.
