Summary:An exploration of Lawrence Durrell's London is presented. Durrell's initial experience of living in London was suburban, however, and came in September 1924. The first of three, almost equidistant steps in an involuntary journey, it would follow a direction near enough due south and cover a mere three miles, but culminate in The Black Book. He was lodged with Edith Dyson, a lady of high moral tone but lacking both sensibility and imagination.
