Description
Summary:The rich chemical composition of essential oils (EOs) makes it possible to use them in various industries, especially in pharmacy, as pharmaceutical substances of plant origin as part of prophylactic/therapeutic products, as well as ready-made pharmaceuticals. Geranium EO was standardized according to the methods and quality indicators given in the general pharmacopeia monograph “Essential Oils” (State Pharmacopoeia, XIV Edition). Specific (representative) components of geranium EO (geraniol, citronellol, neral, and geranial) were identified by gas chromatography (GC) using a flame ionization detector; a quantitative determination of the characteristic component geraniol was also carried out. The results of standardization of geranium EO can be used in the development of a new specific pharmacopeia monograph “Essential oil of geranium. Pelargonii graveolensis oleum aethereum ” and the interstate standard GOST (State Standard) ISO “ Chromatographic Profile of Essential Oil of Geranium of the Bourbon Variety .”
