Synthesis, crystal structure, thermal studies and antimicrobial activity of a new chelate complex of copper(II) succinate with N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine
A coordination polymer, [Cu(tmen)(succ)] n ·4nH 2 O (1) (where succ 2- = succinate dianion, tmen = N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine), was prepared by reacting CuCl 2 ·2H 2 O, succinic acid (H 2 succin) and tmen, and was characterized by elemental analysis, UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR spectrosc...

octahedral coordination environment in which the metal ion is bonded to a chelating tmen molecule and four O atoms from two bridging, asymmetrically chelating succ dianions. The bridging succ dianions link the copper(II) ions into [100] polymeric chains. In the crystal, all the H atoms of the water molecules of crystallization form O-H···O hydrogen bonds, which together with weak C-H...O hydrogen bonds results in a three-dimensional supramolecular network. The antibacterial activity of 1 was studied using the strains Bacillus spizizenii, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, and antifungal activity was studied for Aspergillus niger. It showed significant activity against E. coli. |
