Copper and zinc should be considered in more detail since they have common grounds with iron in maintaining the homeostasis in the organism: they participate in building enzymes of the anti-oxidative stress and are at the same time involved in the processes of hematopoiesis and functioning of the immune system2. Zinc and iron are characterized by antagonistic interactions; however, many ions of trivalent iron may lead to the development of the oxidative stress, on which zinc has a direct effect, being part of the enzymes that catalyze the process of lipid peroxidation4. |
