Summary: | [...]frequent intake of Flurbiprofen, may lead to many gastric complications such as gastric ulceration, bleeding etc. [...]objective of this project is to develop ileo-colonic targeted mucoadhesive microspheres of Flurbiprofen which will not only reduce the gastric complication but will also improve the patient compliance. The microspheres prepared using chitosan and coated with combination of both enteric coating polymers can be potential carriers for colon targeting of anti-inflammatory drug, Flurbiprofen in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Various strategies have been studied for targeting drug release selectively to the ileo-colon region which includes prodrug approach, coating based approach, biodegradable, time dependent, bioadhesive, pH dependent, microflora or enzyme activated systems etc.5,6. Multiparticulate systems are beneficial over single unit system as they exhibit uniform dispersibility and slower passage rate in GI tract, offers flexibility and less inter and intra individual variability in formulation process. |
