Description
Summary:McCullough offers information on the Newman House located in Dublin, Ireland. Newman House has been adapted as the Museum of Literature, a collaboration between the National Library of Ireland and UCI which brings the NLI's Joyce Collections into a building appropriate to their importance. The project architect was Ronan Phelan of Scott Tallon Walker architects, who worked with exhibition designers Ralph Applebaum Associates. Newman House is undoubtedly the right locus for this major initiative. There is an affinity between form and content; Gerard Manley Hopkins was professor of classics here from 1884 to his death in 1889, while James Joyce was a student here. The project is also energetic and ambitious. It looks for a new public for Irish writing and wants to encourage the act of reading and listening - all aspirations to be supported.
