Summary: | Life factor of machine parts depends on the wear and intended fracture. Multilayer hardfacing is resistance to wear, resulting in a combination of different resistance properties like Sliding wear resistance, abrasion wear resistance and corrosion resistance etc. Hardfacing is the oldest technique in surface engineering to acquire various types of properties for material to increase its life service. In this investigation a composition of Fe-C-Cr is layered on ASTM A 105 steel by using shielded metal arc welding in form of single and multilayer depositions. The wear characterizations of these hardfaced alloys at room temperature and at constant loads are investigated on Pin-On Disc tribometer. Microstructure characterizations are examined under optical microscope. It is observed that increase in carbon content increase the hardness but also increases the brittleness of the material. The percentage of constituent’s leads to improving of properties but increase in Si % leads to decrease in formation of Fe carbides. Good wear resistance is offered by multilayer than single layer and morphology study stated that more wear and cracks formation is more in single layer than multilayer. |
