Description
Summary:The error measurements of a ratiometric-macrobending based fiber optic inclinometer with left and right angle tilt sensing capability is discussed and evaluated here. The inclinometer used two fiber sensors on the left and right sides to determine the device tilt direction. The developed inclinometer was based on the pendulum model where a weight was given to pull the inclinometer probe appropriate to the direction of gravity. The probe was placed inside a glass tube where the probe will be pushed by the tube wall and causing macrobending to the left or to the right fiber inside. The resulted R-square value for the right sensor was 96.8772% and the R-square value for the left sensor was 98.2067%. The characterization of the inclinometer shows a maximum error of 1.027° with the lowest R-square of 96.8772%.
