Description
Summary:The aim of the study was to investigate the sleep pattern in insomnia and to reveal the differences between psychophysiological and subjective insomniacs. Fifty chronic insomniacs were evaluated. After completing routine examinations, the subjects spent two consecutive nights in the Sleep Research Center in Gülhane Military Medical Academy. The results indicated that, although the restorations were not sufficient, increased sleep efficiency index and total sleep time and decreased sleep latency were found in the second night recordings. Psychophysiological and subjective insomniacs had no differences in the first night in terms of sleep parameters. Subjective insomniacs showed more restoration in the second night than psychophysiological group. All these findings suggest that polysomnographic examination should be recorded more than two nights, and biological arousal patterns should be investigated in detail.
