Description
Summary:This study aims to introduce a series of eco-friendly anticorrosive nano composite pigments consist of CoWO4 (CoW) as a colorant and different silica sources including CaSiO3, rice husk ash and nano silica as an inexpensive matrix. The synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, FESEM-EDX, ICP-AES, UV–Vis-NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and CIE L*a*b* color scales. The new pigments comprising about 90 wt% of silica sources covered with a thin layer of CoW that is about 10 wt% of pigment. These pigments were used in epoxy based paint formulation and their corrosion efficiencies were investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results showed that the color and anticorrosive properties of the nano composite pigments were significant differences with the changing of silica source. [Display omitted] •A series of novel CoWO4-based composite pigments was synthesized.•All the CIE color coordinates are located in the blue region.•The corrosion efficiencies were investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
