Features of Formation of Mononuclear and Binuclear Copper(II) Complexes with 2,2'-Bipyridyl and closo-Decaborate Anion

The copper(I) complexation reaction with 2,2'-bipyridyl in the presence of salts of the closo -deca-borate anion has been studied in air in organic solvents (1,2-dichloroethane and DMF). It has been found that, as a result of the redox reaction, copper(II) coordination compounds with the [B 10...

Description
Summary:The copper(I) complexation reaction with 2,2'-bipyridyl in the presence of salts of the closo -deca-borate anion has been studied in air in organic solvents (1,2-dichloroethane and DMF). It has been found that, as a result of the redox reaction, copper(II) coordination compounds with the [B 10 H 10 ] 2– anion and 2,2'-bipy-ridyl anion are prepared from known copper(I) complex [ (Bipy) 2 [B 10 H 10 ]] formed in situ. It has been shown that the reaction conditions (the process temperature and solvent nature) have a significant effect on the reaction path and, accordingly, on the composition and structure of the resulting complexes. Mono- and binuclear Cu(II) complexes [Cu II (Bipy) 2 Cl] 2 [B 10 H 10 ] and {[ (Bipy) 2 (μ-OH) 2 ][B 10 H 10 ]} have been isolated and chara-cterized. According to X-ray diffraction, the structure of complex {[ (Bipy) 2 (μ-OH) 2 ][B 10 H 10 ]} contains long Cu…H(B) contacts between the closo -decaborate anion and the metal atom.
