Summary: | The surface hardening of the Ti-Al-V-Zr titanium alloy is studied experimentally; the process is performed by a pulse-periodic CO2 laser with Q-switching. Tensile tests of the treated samples showed that when the sample ruptures, an initiating crack appears in the main material outside the treatment zone. In the case of the already propagating crack in the treated area, no side cracks are observed. In this case, a series of high-power laser pulses increases the strength and yield strength of titanium alloy samples. |
