Summary: | Laser beam machining is an advanced machining process that can be employed on variety of materials ranging from metals to ceramics and polymers to composites. In this study, diode-pumped Nd: YAG laser beam machining is used for creating micro-grooves in Bakelite sheets. The effect of various laser beam machining process parameters (namely frequency, cutting speed, number of passes and diode current) on surface roughness is studied. Based on the experiments, it is seen that surface roughness decreases with increase in diode current but surface roughness increases with increase in frequency. |
