Description
Summary:The cruciform shape has been in use in many designs and structures. The present work is focused on providing an understanding of the flow physics, mainly the vortex shedding phenomena of the cruciform shaped cylinder. The unsteady numerical flow analysis was carried out in the laminar regime to understand the changes in the flow behavior with respect to the varying Reynolds number. The numerical simulations were carried out in the OpenFOAM® open- source software package. The study was conducted in both quantitative and qualitative way, by using parameters such as Coefficient of Lift, Coefficient of Drag, Strouhal Number, and Line Integral Convolution visualizations to get a better understanding of the different phases of the vortex shedding phenomena.
