Summary:Syzygium cumini (Family Myrtaceae) commonly named jamun, is one of the widely distributed medicinal plant in treating many diseases like diabetes, asthma, inflammation, etc. which is native to tropical America and Australia. The ethanolic extract of Syzygium cumini was investigated for anti inflammatory and anti asthmatic activity with their phytoconstituents in animal models. The extract has an anti-inflammatory effect demonstrated by its inhibitory effect in carrageenan induced paw edema. it also produced significant decrease in bronchoconstriction in histamine induced bronchoconstriction (in-vivo) and mast cell degradation method (invitro).
