Generation of Nonequilibrium Nuclei of Magnetization in a Rapidly Increasing Magnetic Field in Pt/Co/Ir/Co/Pt Synthetic Ferrimagnets

Summary: | In a Pt/Co/Ir/Co/Pt synthetic ferrimagnet with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, a stochastically appearing magnetization peak was found in the field dependence of the magnetic moment at a high sweep rate of the magnetic field of 16 kOe/s and
T
= 300 K. The peak appears near coinciding switching fields between three equilibrium states of magnetization. The peak is caused by the nucleation of nonequilibrium magnetic domains near structural defects of the cobalt film, where the activation energy of magnetic nucleation decreases. |
