Summary: | Social media technologies offer a premier to multimode collaboration and 'on the fly' sharing of knowledge. Since collaboration is a recognized important for project teams to complete project work and meet deadlines; virtual collaboration platforms offer seamless information and knowledge sharing. Although in recent times, the use of the technologies models and their benefits are outlined, less emphasis has been sighted in the project-based industries including the construction industry. Since past studies implored knowledge sharing and learning as a primitive of integration and collaborations, this paper aims to explore the prevalent use of mobile messaging applications in construction projects. This research-in-progress paper applies a case study methodology to explore mobile messaging applications as a tool for in construction project stakeholders, the Vietnamese Using semi-structured interviews, data were collected from project team partners from two projects followed by a thematic analysis performed in NVivo-12 software. The results of this study suggest that mobile messaging platforms are prime channels to manage project site work together with advantages including real-time collaboration, seamless knowledge sharing, quick feedback, and consensus development. Also, some barriers at were found as relationship, choice of platform, situation type and formality of work. |
