Summary: | [Display omitted]
•A series of Ni(II)- and Pd(II)-POCOP pincer complexes derived from 1,7-naphthalenediol were synthesized.•The M(II)-POCOP pincer complexes were efficient catalysts in Suzuki-Miyaura couplings.•The Pd(II)-POCOP were more active than their Ni(II) analogues under MW irradiation.
A series of non-symmetric Ni(II)- and Pd(II)-POCOP pincer complexes derived from 1,7-naphthalenediol were synthesized and fully characterized. The molecular structures of four complexes were unambiguously determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, revealing slightly distorted square-planar geometries around the metals. The series of complexes were evaluated in Suzuki-Miyaura C-C cross-coupling reactions under traditional thermal heating and promoted by microwave irradiation. As expected, the Pd(II)-pincer complexes exhibited better performances than the Ni(II) derivatives. Being complex 3-Pd the best catalyst of the series, reaching 73% conversion in only 20 min. |
