Description
Summary:In this paper, complex-shaped sandwich folded plate structures with and without stiffeners have been analyzed using first-order shear deformation theory. Finite element analysis using eight-noded isoparametric serendipity elements has been used. Regular plate elements have been applied to model the plates and stiffeners. Transformation matrices have been used to form the global stiffness matrix. Effect of different boundary conditions, fiber angles and core thicknesses has been discussed. Different stiffener arrangements have been analyzed to study their effects. Numerical results reveal that the fixed edge of folded plate increases the stiffness prominently. Also, proper positioning of stiffeners can significantly increase the stiffness and hence the natural frequency and the buckling load.
