Description
Summary:Kaladgi rocks are very well exposed in Belgaum district of Karnatak state, with adjacent to Maharashtra state. The rocks exposed in the study area comprises mainly of quartzarenites which are sedimentary in origin. This study mainly focuses on determining the environment of deposition of the south-central part of Kaladgi basin. The rock samples collected (25) from the study area were subjected to the thin section studies and the dimensions of the grains were measured. Further, kurtosis, skewness, sorting, and mean size were obtained by using respective formulae. Thus, stating that these Kaladgi quartzarenites were formed under the beach environment in a shallow depth of water. The sediments deposited were mainly transported by rivers flowing from southernly located source rocks through traction and saltation.
