Summary:The inability of the body’s immune system to differentiate cancer cells from normal cells allows cancer cells to proliferate in an uncontrolled manner. Newer strategies are being researched to overcome this immunological tolerance to cancer. Provoking the body’s immune system to generate vaccines against cancer is emerging as an important type of immunotherapy to treat cancers. These cancer vaccines, which have fewer side effects, and offer great promise. Many such vaccines have been identified and several of them are under clinical trials currently.
