Description
Summary:I RELOCATED LAST YEAR TO HELP LEAD the organization that operates the clinic where I learned primary care during residency training. I had last stepped foot in the clinic more than 10 years earlier before moving halfway across the country, first to join a vibrant primary care practice and then to assume a variety of physician leadership roles that led to an inquiry about a position open at my old training grounds. When I was recruited into my current position as chief value officer, the job was described as a full-time administrative role. In my first conversation with the recruiter, I stated how important it was for me to continue to practice medicine. It was a deal breaker. The pace of change and innovation affecting how we practice medicine is extraordinary, and without a hand in clinical practice, I feared it would be too easy to lose sight of the tsunami facing frontline clinicians. Beyond that, I simply love seeing patients - it is typically the best part of my week.
