Summary: | Based in Limerick, Tobin trained at the Limerick School of Art and Design, specialising in sculpture. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is represented in the major significant national collections, including the National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland, the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing, and the collections of the Arts Council of Ireland and the Office of Public Works. Tobin discloses the importance of key individuals, commissions and festivals in developing and shaping the direction of her practice. She cites the influence of Tom Fitzgerald at LSAD and the exhibition space made available by Bri'd Dukes at the Belltable and the Riverrun galleries in Limerick as being of particular importance in her early career. Her process often followed opportunities - her engagement with bronze, for example, began following a commission by Joan O'Connor of New Ireland Assurance for O'Riada Stockbrokers on College Green. |
