Summary: | The present work is devoted to the studies of behavior of porous spherical calcium carbonate vaterites (СаСО
3
) used as components of target drug delivery systems. The samples were implanted into rat muscle tissue and investigated in 3 days, 1, 2, 4 and 12 weeks after operation. It was demonstrated that structural transformation and bioresorption of the implanted carriers occurred over time. In 3 days after implantation, spherical structures rearranged to form needle-like objects, which underwent complete bioresorption during the following two weeks. No pathogenic impact of the samples on the surrounding tissues was revealed, which confirms safety of СаСО
3
vaterites; thus, vaterites can be recommended for further studies as components of target drug delivery systems. |
