Summary: | The lithological-facies zoning of the Neo- and Eopleistocene sediments of the Caribbean Sea has been described for the first time based on deep-sea drilling data. Сorresponding maps and isopach schemes were processed using A.B. Ronov’s volumetric method to calculate the quantitative parameters of sedimentation for the distinguished types of Pleistocene sediments. It was revealed that the role of carbonate sediments increased from the east westward. The accumulation of lithogenic and carbonate planktic sediments was more intense in the Neopleistocene than in the Eopleistocene, which was related to the neotectonic orogeny on the Lesser Antilles. |
