Cobalt(II), Zinc(II) and Cadmium(II) Coordination Polymers Assembled by Flexible 5,5′-(But-2-ene-1,4-diylbis(oxy))diisophthalic Acid and 1,2-Bis((1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene Ligands

Summary:Four new two and three dimensional coordination polymers, namely, [Co 2 (µ 4 -L)(µ-obix) 2 ] n ( 1 ), [Zn 2 (µ 4 -L)(µ-obix) 2 ] n ( 2 ), {[Zn 2 (µ 4 -L)(µ-obix) 2 ] · 2CH 3 CN} n ( 3 ), and {[Cd 2 (µ 4 -L)(H 2 O) 4 (µ-obix)] n ·2H 2 O} n ( 4 ), where H 4 L = 5,5′-(but-2-ene-1,4-diylbis(oxy))diisophthalic acid and obix = 1,2-bis((1 H -imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene), were synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, infrared spectra (IR) and elemental analyses. Compounds 1 and 2 were isostructural and displayed 3D 3-fold interpenetrating frameworks with mog moganite topologies. Compound 3 featured a 2D 2-fold interpenetrating network with 3,4L13 topology. Compound 4 exhibited a 2D layer structure with 3,4-connected 3,4L13 topology. Furthermore, luminescence and thermal properties of the compounds were investigated in detail.
