Evaluation of serum interleukin-33 and gene polymorphisms in patients with bronchial asthma

Aims: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between serum interleukin (IL)-33 level and IL-33 gene rs1342326, rs1929992 and rs3939286 polymorphisms in patients with asthma. Methods: Ninety patients aged 18 years and older, wh...

Summary:Aims: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between serum interleukin (IL)-33 level and IL-33 gene rs1342326, rs1929992 and rs3939286 polymorphisms in patients with asthma. Methods: Ninety patients aged 18 years and older, who were diagnosed with asthma, and 90 healthy control subjects were included in the study. Serum IL-33 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; and IL-33 gene polymorphisms were studied by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: IL-33 level was higher in patients with asthma (4.16 [+ or -] 0.88 pg/mL) compared to the control subjects (1.28 [+ or -] 0.37 pg/mL) (p
