Summary: | Four metallaprisms were synthesized by the selective combination of (p‐cymene)Ru‐corners, bis(β‐diketone) pillars, and multi‐functional pyridyl linkers. They have large cavities and exhibit photoluminescence in CH2Cl2 solvent, particularly the employment of AIE‐active ligand tetra‐(4‐pyridylphenyl)ethylene (TPPE) endows one of them with AIE properties.
Bis(β‐diketone) ligands have fine regulation of angle and distance between two β‐diketone units, particularly when the benzene ring and its adjacent β‐diketone unit is mutually perpendicular, thus holding the dual ability to tune arm length and prevent interpenetration. Metallasupramolecules synthesized with the bis(β‐diketone) ligand not only have large cavities but also exhibit photoluminescence in solution, particularly with use of an AIE building block. |
