Summary:Data on the concentration of 137 Cs is obtained from soils, food plants, and muscle tissue of seven species of game animals (wild reindeer, elk, roe deer, musk deer, bighorn sheep, white hare, and brown bear) in the tundra and taiga zones of Yakutia. It has been shown that reindeer and musk deer are consumers of bushy lichens, are characterized by a relatively high content of 137 Cs (up to 51.6–75.1 Bq/kg), and can be a source of its intake into the organism of the next level consumer—the brown bear. The levels of 137 Cs in other herbivorous species are relatively low. Meat products of a number of species constitute an important component of the nutrition of the population of reindeer herding and hunting and hunting regions of the Far North. At present, the concentrations of the radionuclide in the tissues of the species studied do not exceed the established sanitary and hygienic standards.
