Description
Summary:The prime focus of the paper is to design and simulate a rectangular micro strip patch antenna with inset feeding used for WIFI applications. The Two dimensional (2D) Electromagnetic band gap structures (EBG) are proposed in the ground plane to get more gain and bandwidth. The effect of various shapes of EBG structures on the performance of the antenna is studied. Circular, hexagonal and triangular two dimensional EBG structures are placed on the ground plane in order to reduce the surface waves. First, a rectangular micro strip antenna is designed and simulated by taking the resonant frequency of 5.2 GHz. Simulations are carried out by placing different EBG structures in the ground plane and the behavior of the antenna is studied. Simulations are carried out using High Frequency structure Simulator (HFSS) software. The performance parameters like return losses, bandwidth radiation pattern and gain are measured. The band width and gain of the antenna units using EBG structures has increased considerably by placing hexagonal and triangle shaped EBG and the results are reported.
