Summary: | The article shows the role of precession of a propshaft in increasing its vibration ativity. An auto inline four-cylinder engine has been shown to trigger a resonance mode of its drive shaft vibrations, i.e. intense flexural vibrations, leading to an emergency situation. This is due to the effect of forced synchronization (frequency capture) when the frequency of the second order unbalanced inertia forces is approaching the critical frequency of drive shaft rotations. |
