Description
Summary:The phenomenon of the ignition delay of a stoichiometric methane-air mixture in a shock tube (ST) installation is investigated. These experiments, in contrast to most other similar experiments, are carried out in incident shock waves. This makes it possible to obtain more reliable results by calculating the parameters from the measured velocity of the incident wave behind its front. The onset of the chemical process and, accordingly, the ignition is determined by the appearance of radiation from the OH • radical. H 2 and He are used as driver gases. The ignition delay times are measured in the range of 870 to 4000 μs for the initial mixture temperatures of 800 to 1200 K and pressures 0.8 to 2.4 bar. Data on the ignition delay times at such low pressures have not been found in the literature.
