Summary: | This article briefly reviews the type of world many of us live in currently and the dangers humanity now faces. The Buddhist practices of mindfulness, compassion, and the Buddha's teachings on the Four Immeasurables of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity are discussed. The article also addresses ways of using compassion to ameliorate the impending ecological dangers facing humanity. I demonstrate with examples and anecdotes how I am learning to cultivate and practice living a compassionate and regenerative lifestyle, caring for ecology and the land, in order to find a balanced and sustainable approach that does as little harm to nature as possible, while "being real in the modern world." |
