On the effect of aluminum on phonon dispersion relation and other properties of bulk metallic glass Ca70Mg30

Description
Summary:A comparative study of the Phonon Dispersion Relation (PDR) of Bulk Metallic Glasses (BMGs) Ca70Mg30 and Ca50Mg15Al35 has been reported in the current article to find the effect of additional Al in the calcium-magnesium BMG (Ca70Mg30). The ‘Al’ is an element generally added to the class of material, nowadays famous as, BMG to change its hardness. The PDRs of both the glasses under study have been calculated in terms of longitudinal (ωL) and transverse (ωT) frequencies. An apparent change has been obtained in the PDRs due to the additional Al. Apart from the PDRs some elastic constants and characteristic parameters such as longitudinal velocity of sound (VL), transverse velocity of sound (VT), isothermal bulk modulus (BT), modulus of rigidity (G), Poisson's ratio (σ), Young's modulus (Y) and Debye temperature (θT) for both of the BMGs are also presented.
