Description
Summary:•Complex antiferromagnetism and spin glass anomalies in Ho4RhAl and Er4RhAl.•Kondo-like electrical and magnetotransport anomalies in the paramagnetic state.•Negligible drop of spin-disorder contribution to resistivity below Néel temperature.•Magnetic and transport properties mimic those of exotic skyrmion Gd2PdSi3.•Test cases for theories predicting new roles of itinerant electrons and RKKY frustration. We report the results of magnetic, heat-capacity, electrical and magnetoresistance measurements on Ho4RhAl and Er4RhAl, characterized by 3 sites for rare-earths (R). The main conclusions are: (i) Antiferromagnetic ordering sets in at (TN = ) ~ 8.8 and ~ 4.0 K respectively. While Ho compound appears to enter into a complex spin-glass phase at T
