Description
Summary:The article analyzes the main methods for obtaining transparent polycrystalline ceramics from Al 2 O 3 by hot pressing, hot isostatic pressing and spark plasma sintering (SPS). To obtain transparent polycrystalline Al 2 O 3 , a high-purity α-Al 2 O 3 powder with a nano- or submicron particle size and a narrow size distribution is used as a starting material. The best optical and mechanical results can be obtained by multistage sintering with the final stage of hot isostatic pressing. In addition, the quality of Al 2 O 3 ceramics is improved by sintering additives MgO, Y 2 O 3 , La 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 .
