Summary:The mechanism of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation plus the role of conservation, sustainable forest management and carbon stock enhancement (REDD+) is emerging as one of the most viable and cost-efficient international policies to halt land-use change and transform the forestry sector of developing countries. This paper is informed by the understanding that politics and the interests that shape policy are of fundamental importance to policies such as REDD+. The aim of this paper is therefore to explore the political economy of forestry reforms in Ghana with a focus on highlighting their implications and lessons for the REDD+ mechanism.
