Summary:Electron microscopy revealed continuous and discontinuous precipitation of κ -Co 3 AlC 0.5 in a Co-10Al-3Cu-1C (at. pct) alloy during aging at 500 °C, 850 °C, and 900 °C. The kinetics of the discontinuous reaction at 500 °C are sluggish. Increasing the temperature increases the kinetics significantly, due to the exponential increase in the Al grain boundary diffusivity. However, the kinetics at 900 °C are slower than those at 850 °C, due to a significant decrease in the driving force.
