Synthesis, characterization, in vitro antimicrobial and anticancer activity of metal(II) complexes of Schiff base-derived from 3-formyl-2-mercaptoquinoline and thiosemicarbazide
2-Mercaptoquinoline thiosemicarbzone metal(II) complexes of the type [M(L) 2 ], (M = Co, Ni, Cu & Zn) were synthesized from the reaction of 2-((mercaptoquinolin-3-yl)methylene)hydrazinecarbothioamide Schiff base ligand (HL) with metal(II) chlorides. The synthesized compounds were characterized b...

Summary: | 2-Mercaptoquinoline thiosemicarbzone metal(II) complexes of the type [M(L)

], (M = Co, Ni, Cu & Zn) were synthesized from the reaction of 2-((mercaptoquinolin-3-yl)methylene)hydrazinecarbothioamide Schiff base ligand (HL) with metal(II) chlorides. The synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR,

H NMR,

C NMR, ESR and ESI-mass spectral studies. The analytical and spectral data revealed that Schiff base ligand is coordinated with the metal center, via dissociation of the one acidic proton, as a monoanionic tridentate SNS donor and that metal(II) ions adopt octahedral coordination. The antimicrobial activity of the ligand and metal(II) complexes was studied against bacterial strains and fungal stains. Furthermore, the cytotoxic properties of ligand and complexes were studied against MCF-7 cell line. |
