Description
Summary:The situation of Nigerian society where youth unemployment is growing precariously in the midst of material wellbeing is a paradox that requires serious critical analysis. The objective of this study is to examine the nexus between youth unemployment and its intergenerational poverty in Nigeria. The information for the study is sourced from previous reports of Nigerian government agencies, World Bank, and other relevant articles. A historical analysis technique was adopted to examine evidences, and to give credence to an understanding of the past, in explaining the current youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. Findings include that most Nigerian youths lack skills that are necessary to help them succeed as entrepreneurs; critical thinkers, people oriented managers, and service oriented individuals. We thus, recommend new ways to organize the Nigerian society beyond wage labour and endeavour to create new jobs in the man – machine - team tasks and service sector to solve the increasing youth unemployment, considering the dynamics of modern society.
