Description
Summary:The paper presents the results of a technological analysis of sickles from the most famous hoard of the Bronze Age, Sosnovaya Maza, the collection of the State Historical museum, sickles of a comparative sample from the eastern regions, and the results of radiocarbon dating. Comparative analysis linked the sickles from the hoard found on the Lower Volga and sickles from the Late Bronze Age settlements of the Southern Urals and Kazakhstan. The 14 C date obtained for an animal bone from Alekseevskoe settlement of the Sargarinsky culture made it possible to propose a dating of the Sosnovo-Mazinsky hoard within 1400–1300 BC and discuss the problems of metal circulation in the Volga-Ural region in the second half of the second millennium BC.
