Description
Summary:Introduction Ameloblastoma is generally considered as a benign and relatively common tumor in maxillofacial surgical practice.1 It develops itself at the expense of odontogenic blastic tissues and has a high potential for local aggression.2 If tumor recurrence and local extension of this pathology seem to be known and reported, this is not the case of its endocranial invasion which is still in the domain of evolutionary exception. The observed recurrences can be explained by the well-known aggressive nature of ameloblastoma.11'12 Therefore, authors have also reported invasion of juxta-maxillary soft-tissue by contiguity and even rare cases of pulmonary metastases that could be justified by the importance of the mediastino-pulmonary lymphatic network.9,13 The present patient could be part of a loco-regional aggression by a break-in of the cranial base from the infra-temporal cavity or tumor meta-localization through a hypothetical vasculolymphatic spread. Unfortunately, the patient could not afford such evacuation due to its high cost and the absence of a third-party payer. [...]the priority is to improve the quality of the local technical platform available for a more adequate management of these types of pathologies. [...]we must reconsider the benign nature of ameloblastoma as well as the therapeutic indications applied to ensure the effectiveness of prognosis.
