Description
Summary:Finite element simulation of the bending of plates of a sheet material in a tool die is performed in the Deform-3D software package to reveal a relation between the wall thinning of an angle piece and its geometric parameters and the mechanical characteristics of the sheet material. A decrease in the relative curvature or the ratio of the ultimate tensile strength to the yield strength of the material is shown to be accompanied by a decrease in the thinning of the angle piece at its vertex. Approximating relations are proposed to estimate the thinning at the vertex of an angle piece. A comparative analysis reveals discrepancies between the data of finite element simulation and the estimate calculated by the approximating relations.
