Description
Summary:The influence of high-temperature heating to 350°C on the structure, phase composition, and main mechanical properties of small-sized stampings of a VMD16 magnesium alloy is studied. The action of temperature in the range 300–350°C for 1 h is found not to cause marked grain growth and noticeable changes in the phase composition of the alloy. A decrease in the strength properties of the stampings during tension and compression is no higher than 5.6–9.0%. It is confirmed that the high thermal stability of the alloy structure elements, the existence of LPSO phases, the favorable morphology of strengthening-phase particles, and the existence of zirconium (active antisolidification agent) conserve the high mechanical properties of the alloy after the action of temperature in the range 300–350°C for 1 h.
