Summary:[8] Reduced glucose absorption from gastrointestinal tract accompanied by prolonged peripheral glucose accumulation, gluconeogenesis, diminished hepatic glucose output, and reduced disposal of glucose is hallmarks of hypothyroidism. [13] Diabetes and hypothyroidism have similar signs and symptoms, such as edema, fatigue, pallor, and weight gain. [...]the development of diabetes may be masked in thyroid disorders leading to progress of diabetic state and diabetic complications. Thyroid hormones raise body temperature, which activate heat dissipating mechanisms causing vasodilation, this results in reduction of peripheral vascular resistance by direct action as well as by their permissive action on catecholamines. [...]this study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Trivandrum, to study the association of hypothyroidism with comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension as well as, age and gender.
