Summary: | A novel and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of 1,1'-(1,4-phenylesubstituted-bis(methylene))bis(3-phenylurea) derivatives from p-xylylenediamine and aryl isocyanates. The reaction conditions like a nature of a catalyst base and a solvent have been optimized. Triethyl amine was found to be as a suitable base, tetrahydrofuran was found be an effective solvent, and the temperature of 10-40°C was found be an optimized one. The advantage of the reaction is easy work-up procedure and moderate to good yields of the obtained products. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR-, 1H, 13C NMR-spectroscopy, mass spectrometry as well as elemental analysis. In addition, the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activity and some of them were identified as possessing with noteworthy anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial potentiality. |
