Summary:The article presents data of the beam attenuation coefficient, Secchi disk depth, and chlorophyll concentration in a survey area in the northern tropical zone of the Atlantic Ocean in summer 1986. The relationship between the bio-optical characteristics and water dynamics is considered. The chlorophyll concentrations in summer 1986 are compared with those observed in autumn 2002.
